A public hearing for a proposed bar and lounge on the east side of Swift Current was held last week by city council.

During the January 10 council meeting, the City turned to the public for their input on a discretionary use application they received in late-2021 from Vrindda Retailing Ltd. for a potential new business development at 170 19th Avenue Northeast.

Swift Current's City Clerk Jackie Schlamp told council during the short hearing that she hadn't received any requests in writing or to speak in favour or against the application.

"I did receive a telephone call on December 16 from a neighbouring business owner asking for further explanation to the letter and the map that was provided [by the city]," she told council. "Once the information was given to this gentleman, he indicated he was excited to have a place nearby he could dine-in or stop for coffee."

The public hearing was the second step in a three-step process for the City on determining the discretionary use applications fate.

Council will make their decision on January 24 during their next meeting regarding the application.
