The ACT Summer Kick-Off Event was a big success, even after a scare from the rain.

The City of Swift Current and the ACT Club brought together a bunch of fun games for kids to enjoy, all for free. The venue was supposed to be at ACT Park but was moved indoors to the InnovationPlex curling facilities in order to avoid the surprise rain on Wednesday night.

Running the show on behalf of the City of Swift Current was Mackenzie Veason, the summer programs coordinator. She was helping keep the games fair, the kids smiling, and everybody operating smoothly. She thanked the ACT Club for not only hosting the free barbecue at the event but for everything else they did to make it successful.

"They actually sponsor our Parks Play program and they bought everything for the BBQ," said Veason. "They came with 15-plus volunteers, so we're really thankful for them."

The kids were grateful as well, as they enjoyed a bouncy castle, an inflatable obstacle course, the pinwheel tarp and the games being run with it, and so much more.

The event was well attended, even after the short notice venue change.

"We've had people trickle in and out, but I would say probably 300 to 400 kids, maybe even 500 have come out," estimated Veason.

With this being the Summer Kick-Off event, it launches a season full of great family-friendly dates. A full list can be found on the City of Swift Current website, but the closest event is Youth Fest.

Running from 6 to 8 p.m. on June 19, this venue will be for a little older crowd, ranging from 12 to 15 for age range. Veason encourages anyone with questions about Youth Fest or other events to reach out to her at summer.programs@swiftcurrent.ca.
