The Golden West Customer Appreciation Free Hot Dog Lunch saw the barbecues cleared by Swift Current.

Over 850 hot dogs courtesy of Treens were served to the general public with buns provided by Country Hills Catering and condiments and pop from Pioneer Co-op at absolutely zero cost to the listener.

For over 40 years, Hot Dog Day has been Golden West's favourite way to give back to the listeners, showing them the same love they show by listening to the radio every day.

Everyone who made it out was happy to dine on the beef-based frankfurters and drink their complimentary refreshments.

Young Autumn Nokosolosski, who was joined by her mother Lisa Nokosolosski, had a great time getting a free lunch.

Are the hot dogs good? "Yeah," said Autumn.

Are you having fun with Mom and everyone else? "Yeah," she repeated.

For Lisa, the chance to feed her kid while showing support for her favourite stations was a big highlight.

"It's awesome," said Lisa. "Anytime I don't have to cook it's a win, and to bring her out on a sunny day. It's a great day to have it and it's a great community event."

Others stopped in on their lunch break like Larry Dyck. He and others could be seen hitting the hot dog line twice, making sure to fill up while the food was good.

"It's all so good," said Dyck. "I listen to 94.1 now that it's gone country. The people on the radio are always so good, but I enjoy listening to some comedy with Ken Audette."

Indeed, the noon hour sun was warm, while the breeze was refreshing enough to keep everyone comfortable. Enjoying sitting with her family was Kerrie Nybo, who enjoyed a spot of shade by the old City Hall archway. She was happy to finally see all the faces behind the voices at Golden West.

"It just gives it a little more personal feel when you're listening to them on the radio," said Nybo. "We enjoy this free hot dog day and all the things that they do in the community."

One of the more notable faces in this year's crowd from Golden West was the Southwest Explorer, Alex Kozroski.

Decked out in his own hot dog costume, he was quickly recognized even in disguise, handing out Full Line Ag Fun Bucks to the first four people who came up to him.

If you see him around this summer, make sure to flag him down and get your Full Line Ag Fun Bucks. Hang on to them once you have them for the Million Dollar Auction later this year.
