The Swift Current Broncos are off tonight, but they’re getting set for a Family Day long weekend homestand against two teams they faced on the road earlier this week. 

The Broncos welcome the Brandon Wheat Kings to InnovationPlex Saturday night at 7:00 after beating them 7-5 in the Keystone City on Tuesday. Then Swift Current hosts the Winnipeg ICE for a 4:00 start on Monday, looking for revenge after Wednesday’s 5-3 loss in Winnipeg. 

Both games can be heard live on the Eagle 94.1 FM with Living Sky Casino Broncos Hockey starting 30 minutes before the puck drop.

Moose Jaw hosts Winnipeg, Regina heads to Prince Albert and Saskatoon travels to Victoria as part of tonight’s seven-game WHL schedule.

Legionnaires welcome Pat-Cs tonight

The Home Hardware Legionnaires play their only game of the weekend tonight when they host the Regina Pat Canadians. 

The Legionnaires will be without forwards Cam and Cobe Perlinger and Parker Rondeau, as well as goaltender Berney Weston who are in PEI with Team Saskatchewan for the Canada Winter Games that are getting underway this weekend. 

Tonight’s game starts at 8:00pm from InnovationPlex. 

Meanwhile, the Innovation Credit Union Wildcats wrap up the regular season with games against the Weyburn Gold Wings tomorrow at 7:45 and Sunday at 1:15 from S3 Arenas. 

The Source for Sports U18 AA Broncos have a home-and-home set with the Yorkton Terriers this weekend, while the Full Line Ag U18 Wildcats wrap up the regular season on Sunday in Wilcox against the Notre Dame Hounds, the Graphic Edge U15 Wildcats wrap up their regular season with two games in Weyburn, and the WW Smith U13 Wildcats host Weyburn for two games this weekend. 

Three Canadian NHL teams suffer losses on Thursday night

Seth Jarvis had a hat trick as the Carolina Hurricanes beat the Montreal Canadiens 6-2 in Thursday’s NHL action. The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for the Habs as they embark on a four-game road trip. 

Elsewhere, Kent Johnson scored the game-winner in the third period as the last-place Columbus Blue Jackets beat Winnipeg 3-1. The Jets also saw their three-game winning streak come to an end with the loss. 

Also, Tyler Bertuzzi had a goal and two assists as the Detroit Red Wings wrapped up an unbeaten Western Canada swing with a 5-2 win over Calgary at the Saddledome. The Wings have won their last five in a row, while the loss knocked the Flames out of the last wild card spot in the western conference. 

Ottawa hosts Chicago and Edmonton welcomes the red-hot New York Rangers tonight.

"Have you Herd?" Riders bringing back Herdman-Reed

Canadian linebacker Justin Herman-Reed is coming back to the Saskatchewan Roughriders for a third season. The Simon Fraser grad picked up 12 tackles in 14 games with the Green and White last season. 

Meanwhile, as free agent signings continue in the CFL, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats re-signed fan-favourite linebacker Simoni Lawrence for his 10th season with the Ti-Cats. Lawrence had 41 tackles in nine games last year.

Rush return to San Diego tonight

The Saskatchewan Rush make a second visit to San Diego to take on the Seals as Week 12 of the NLL season kicks off tonight.

The Rush dropped a 13-12 overtime decision to the Seals back on December 9. Saskatchewan sits third in the Western Conference standings behind the first-place Seals and the second-place Calgary Roughnecks.
