The Swift Current Broncos were handed a big 7-3 defeat by the Saskatoon Blades on the road last night, to kick off a home and home series.

Rookie Coda Gordon had two goals for the Broncos, to put his total to 25 on the season. Levi Bews had the other goal for Swift Current. The Blades were led by Darren Dietz who had four goals, including two in the last minute of the second period. Matej Stransky, Brett Stovin, and Travis McEvoy had the other goals for the Blades.

Broncos goalie Jon Groenhyede allowed six goals on 36 shots through the first two periods, and Austin Smith made eight saves in relief. Andrey Makarov had 41 saves for the Blades as they edged the Broncos 45-44 on the shot clock.

The loss, coupled with Brandon's 6-1 win over Prince Albert, drops the Broncos to 17 points behind the Wheat Kings for the 8th and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

The Broncos and Blades play again tonight at the Credit Union iplex at 7:00pm, and you can hear it on the Eagle 94.1 starting at 6:30pm.
