The Swift Current Broncos recently added a shiny trophy to their mantle.

After 31 years as a member of the Swift Current & District Chamber of Commerce, the WHL club was named the 2022 Hall of Fame Inductee.

While the organization was visited on September 28 by the Chamber to let them know of the honours, they had to wait until last Friday at the SCBEX to obtain the glass award.

Nathan MacDonald, the executive vice president of business operations for the Broncos, said the big win was a team effort by their staff since returning to the city in 1986.

"This award pays tribute to all the efforts that have been made over the years and it certainly means a lot to us," he said. "To come from an organization like the Chamber of Commerce is something that means quite a bit to us being that they're such a respected organization."

Both the Chamber in an email and MacDonald highlighted the Broncos' ability to unite the community through one of Canada's favourite sports.

"Games provide an opportunity for friends and family to connect, and bring new visitors to Swift Current which helps our local economy and tourism industry," the Chamber said.

The team currently employs 15 full-time staff and over 100 part-time employees when including their game-day team.

"Everybody's played a part in fulfilling that goal of bringing the community together and every single one of them is a vital piece of the organization," he said.

The award will sit in the Stable alongside the organization's 2018 championship.
