Swift Current’s Canadian Tire has been awarded at the 25th annual SCBEX Ceremony for their outstanding business practices.

The business was recognized for its hiring practices with the Employer of Persons Experiencing Disabilities Award. Canadian Tire works together with SaskAbilities to employ those who may not get the same opportunities when entering the workforce.

Adrian Wardell is the owner of the Swift Current Franchise and accepted the award for the second time in just three years.

“To help people that don't get every opportunity in life is really rewarding and to be recognized for that is even better,” expressed Wardell. “I think in this economy, especially in the difficulty that every business is experiencing finding labour, it just makes sense to find any individual that would fit a need, whether you're on the front lines, the back lines, or every line in between. If there's a need, there's probably a person out there that could fill that.”

Between both seasonal work and long-term positions, the franchise has numerous successful stories of staff who thrived in their positions. Having won the award back in 2021, the business is no stranger to even-ground hiring practices.

General Manager of Swift Current Canadian Tire, Tyler Lemieux, received the reward alongside Wardell.

“Of all the awards, this is an important one because we really try to be inclusive employers and we’ve found a lot of good employees who are still with us to this day through the partners program,” explained Lemieux. “I definitely encourage any business to jump in and contact Jackie at  SaskAbilities because it's greatly beneficial for both the staff and for us as the business.”
