The annual Walk to Make Cystic Fibrosis History went off without a hitch on Sunday, thanks to a break in the rain clouds.

Despite the damp weather, multiple people turned out to Riverside Park to make the trek along the Chinook Pathway.

“It went wonderful,” stated Co-chair for the Cystic Fibrosis Walk, Yvonne Laviolette. “The rain decided to stay away, it was a little foggy, a little cool, but it was still a beautiful day. We had about 60 walkers come out.”

The annual event raised just over 11,000 for Cystic Fibrosis Canada to help fund research efforts and assist the thousands of Canadians living with cystic fibrosis (CF).

Laviolette added that this event is important to continue bringing awareness to the disease.

“Cystic fibrosis is a disease that affects children and we do have children in our own area that are affected by this,” she stated. “With the money raised, it does help with research, the advent of new drugs, it just makes the cystic fibrosis patient be able to live a healthier, longer life.”

CF is the most common fatal genetic disease affecting children and young adults in Canada, impacting over 4,300 Canadians. There is still no cure.
