The Elmwood Golf Club is turning 100 years old this year, and they are celebrating it this weekend.

Though the course may be hitting the century mark, it has had some work done. The golf course's most recent renovations were completed after four years of work. The new course featured 18 brand new greens as well as ten newly designed holes that were done so by Les Furber and Tim Birnie of Golf Design Services LTD out of Canmore, Alberta.

Les Furber has worked on courses all across the world, both redesigning and designing them and said he was happy with how the redesign turned out.

"It turned out very well. It has a nice view of topography," he said. "With the lake view from everywhere. Every site is quite different and special if you are fortunate enough to have worked on projects like that. It makes you feel like your successful, so I'm very happy in that sense."

Furber said he doesn't have a favourite of the holes at Elmwood but does have some that he really likes.

"They are all a great collection of golf holes," he stated. "The ones which are the most visual like the new number 18 par five along the highway. You can see every bit of the golf hole from the tee to the green. The new fifth hole is the same thing. Those become very vivid. Number ten was one that we wanted to make a risk and reward hole. A lot of people tried to drive the green from the tees. We wanted to take the driver out of people's hands, so we tightened that up and bunkered it. It's a very visual hole. It tells you that it's a high risk if you want to try and continue doing that (driving the green) then. That would have to be one of my favourites because of the challenge.

Furber added that his favourite part of the course is how it looks.

"The visual beauty. We really concentrated on making all the hazards look back at the golfer. You see them from the tee. You know where they are, and that's very gratifying," he said. " We were also able to keep one strong par five on each nine as we had before. We didn't lose those factors. I think it turned out really well. The thing about it, if the holes are memorable people will want to come back and play them because they remember them as being good holes, and so we try and get that into our design as much as we can."

The golf course will be holding celebrations starting tonight and running until Sunday.
