Dillon Heatherington

Broncos defenceman Dillon Heatherington is starting to step into a bigger role.

The 16-year-old has been in and out of the lineup at times this season as the coaching staff gets him used to the level of play in the WHL.

With a recent injury to Graeme Craig, Heatherington was happy to earn an opportunity to play with top d-man Reece Scarlett.

“It was an unfortunate injury with Craig getting hurt but it gives an opportunity to guys and I'm really happy to fill that opportunity.”

Heatherington responded by scoring his first career WHL goal in Brandon last weekend.

“I shot from the point and it went off one of Brandon's players, and Dale was standing right beside him so I kind of questioned that, but after his reaction, I definitely knew it was mine. It was a little bit of a relief to get the first one after forty games or so, so I'm pretty happy about it.”

Heatherington says it as a great relief but it would have been a lot more special if they had won the game.

Heatherington and the Broncos head to the Prince Albert tonight to play the Raiders.
