The weekend was full of local vendors and foreign fauna at Swift Current’s newest trade show.

The Acres and Avenues Trade Show featured a variety of local merchants and trades and was coupled with the Exotic Animals and Poultry Sale. However, poultry livestock was not present at the show, due to an ongoing avian flu outbreak in the area.

People and their families were able to tour various booths and stalls, as well as attend shows and entertainment like E-I-E-I Joe Magic show which seeks to educate children on farm safety.

Megan Muri, event coordinator for the Swift Current Agricultural and Exhibition Association, shared her thoughts on how the event combined with the sale turned out.

"Combined with our poultry and exotic animal market, the acres and the avenues coming together, we weren't sure how the community was going to see it," Muri admitted. "And it [was] a really good turn out and people are just excited to be out and seeing their vendors and their local businesses that they haven't seen in two years."

Muri remarked how that's the big factor here. People coming out after two years of not being able to attend events like these shows how much the community cares about their local markets and stores.

The show featured vendors offering a wide variety of goods and services. Things like home renovations and flooring, to candy and home crafts. There was even one group that was dealing in electric bicycles, for anyone looking to cruise around in style this summer.

"There's kind of something for everybody in the family," Muri remarked.

One of the biggest attractions this year with the combination of the two events was the exotic animals that were brought in. There was everything from your family favourites of goats, sheep, rabbits and bunnies, and other farm specifics, to things of foreign and curious origin, like snakes and other warmer climate inhabitants.
