After selling every single one of its tickets, the LegionBranch 56 is calling its raffle a success.

Selling all 1,000 tickets means they managed to raise $5,000 during the Smoker Raffle.

Wrapping up on May 18th, the winner of the first place prize and aforementioned smoker is Mike Doll. Second place was won by Kim Melenchuk, who received a set of barbecue tools for her backyard cooking adventures.

Public relations officer for the Swift Current Royal Canadian Legion Branch 56, John Griffin, extended his congratulations and his thanks to everyone involved.

"Royal Canadian Legion Branch 56 would like to thank all those who purchased a ticket for this raffle," said Griffin. "We are ever grateful for your support of our branch and Canada's veterans. It means a lot to us."

The smoker itself was donated by Uli Cartman of Rawhiude Supplements and the Cote Boyz. Their generosity will enable the Legion Branch 56 to continue operating its programs with adequate funding.

Griffin revealed that the raffle came about after Cartman and Levi Cote approached him with the idea. Liking their initiative and dedication to supporting the local Legion Branch 56, he took them up on their gracious offer.

"The kindness and generosity of this community is amazing," said Griffin. "We intend to put these proceeds to good use in support of the community."

If anyone missed out on the raffle but would still like to support the Legion Branch 56, they can make a donation directly. Simply stopping by their Swift Current offices will allow the members to help in any way someone might need, be that a cash donation, cheque, or transfer.
