The Home Hardware Midget AAA Legionnaires have now won three-straight, after coming away with a pair of weekend wins on the road.

Swift Current was battling the Yorkton Maulers on Saturday, and worked a 3-2 victory.

Yorkton held a 2-1 lead through two periods of play in the game, with Swift's lone goal to that point from Spencer Bell. Though, Swift Current responded with a pair of third-period strikes from Ryan McCleary and Jakin Lawrence to earn the win.

It was important for the Legionnaires to not look past the winless Maulers, and it doesn't look as if they did.

"Yorkton's got some good pieces there, (but) they've got a lot of injuries. That's what's affected their record. I think they're a playoff team once they get their guys back, if they can catch up," said Legionnaires' head coach Darren Evjen.

"I thought we were the better team by chances, but we turned the puck over twice in the first period for them to make two nice plays. We played well for the whole game, but it just took until the end of the game to get the win."

Jacob Herman picked up the 21-save win, while the Legionnaires put 31 shots on net at the other end.

On Sunday, the Legionnaires doubled up the Notre Dame Argos in Wilcox - a team they had beaten 7-1 earlier this month.

Swift Current and the Argos were scoreless through 20 minutes, but goals from Bell, Jaxon Martens, and Brandon von Hagen gave the Legionnaires a commanding 3-1 lead after two.

McCleary posted Swift's fourth-and-final tally in the third period.

"I thought our guys played well, we got 60 minutes," said Evjen. "We controlled the game, and it just took a little bit of time to break free and get a little bit of a lead so that you can play a little easier. It was just a good win by us."

The Legionnaires out-shot the Argos 51-22. Herman was again in net for the win, and is now 7-2 on the season.

In just a 44-game season, the Legionnaires' front-loaded schedule has them already over a quarter of the way through, carrying a 7-5-0-0 record.

After a back-and-forth start to the year, it appears the team is settling into a style of play they can call their own.

"We're starting to find out what our team is now that we've played 12 games - we start to see each player for what they do for us, (and) as a team, kind of our identity," said Evjen.

"The one thing that's sticking out to me is we're starting to play a real sound foundation game. What I like about our team is we've really been pretty consistent the five, six games here (playing) 60 minutes of pace. We've stayed to a level that we want to."

With 12 games spread between September 21 and October 20, a positive has clearly also been the team's conditioning.

"When I look at the game Sunday, that was three (games) in four (days). We had good pace, we look like we're in good shape. We looked pretty sharp, and don't look tired," said Evjen. "I think early in the year like this, we're fine."

Make it four games in seven days, as the Legionnaires are back on home ice at the iPlex this week. They host the Notre Dame Hounds Wednesday night.

"We've got to get them into our game. We've got to play a good, structured game where we keep everything to the outside," said Evjen, detailing parts of the game plan.

"We've got to have discipline against these guys - they always have a good powerplay. We've just got to find a way to be one better than them, and that's a real key."

The Legionnaires and Hounds (4-2-0-0) face off at 8 p.m. on Wednesday.
