Live music, delicious desserts, coffee, and an inspiring speaker will all be at the forefront at the Swift Current Community Youth Initiatives Desserts 4 Hope Fundraiser later this month.

The event will serve as a way to bring people together and support youth mental health within the community, explained Nathan Wiebe, executive director of the Swift Current Community Youth Initiative.

“It's going to be an evening dessert night, kind of a coffee house feel,” explained Nathan Wiebe. The idea is to bring people in to get an experience inside of The Center. There is going to be dessert, there's going to be some entertainment and some mingling amongst a program as well.”

This will be the second time that that the savoury event makes its way to Swift Current after first debuting in 2019.

“We hosted one right before COVID and it's just a really fun atmosphere to come and spend some time,” Wiebe elaborated.

The event will take place at The Center on May 17, with doors opening at 6:30 p.m.

In addition to the live music, specialty beverages, and sweet treats, attendees will also have to opportunity to purchase items from an adjacent online auction.

All of the proceeds from the event go directly towards supporting the free professional counselling that is offered to youth and families in the community.

He added that events such as these are essential to furthering the conversation of youth mental health.

“We're creating obviously a fun atmosphere for kids to come hang out, but it's really important for us to continue to dive into those mental health supports for our kids, for our families, and to be able to provide that service,” Wiebe concluded.

Tickets for the event are 40 dollars per person or 280 dollars for a table of eight.
