A new initiative seeks to improve the playground facilities at two local schools.

Mark Reiter, Principal at Ecole Centennial School provides details on the Growing Fun Together campaign.

"So the Growing Fun Together campaign is a joint initiative between the Chinook School Division, the Holy Trinity School Division and the City of Swift Current. And what we are trying to do is we are trying to improve our playground improvements here at both schools."

The campaign is currently in it's first phase which involves getting grass and irrigation along with a soccer pitch for Ecole Centennial and All Saints Catholic School. It is hoped that this phase will be complete by fall of 2025.

Reiter provides details on how the community can help.

"People are encouraged to visit either one of the schools to make a donation. We also here at Ecole Centennial, we have it all over our Facebook page. We have a great electronic version where people can go to our website, they can click on a link and it can all be done right through there. But of course always coming to the school to drop off the cheques or sending it with students that works just as well."

In terms of the benefits that these improvements will bring, Reiter says that playgrounds provide a safe and engaging space for kids and promote physical health and development. In addition he adds that the spaces are vital for social interaction, learning teamwork and sometimes even learning to solve problems.

Reiter adds that any donations of $25 or more will also receive a charitable tax donation receipt.

According to Reiter they are very excited about the campaign and have already had some families and community members step up, but adds they are always looking for new partnerships and they just want to make the playground facilties the best place it can be for students.
