The Saskatchewan NDP were not surprised by the outcome of Manitoba’s Plebiscite on the Canadian Wheat Board.

About 65% of eligible farmers took part in the Manitoba vote. Out of that, 70% wanted to keep the status quo on wheat, while 62% wanted barley to remain under the Board.

Saskatchewan’s Deputy Premier, Clay Serby, liked the results and says they will wait to see the federal question on barley and how they put together the voter’s list before determining if Saskatchewan will hold its own plebiscite on the issue.

A Federal Plebiscite will be held between January 31st and March 6th to find out if farmers want to have marketing choice.

The exact wording of the question has yet to be released.
