Connor McDavid scored 32 seconds into double overtime to lift the Edmonton Oilers to a 3-2 road win over the Dallas Stars in the opening game of the NHL's Western Conference Final on Thursday.

Zach Hyman and Leon Draisaitl also scored for the Oilers. Game two is in Dallas on Saturday night.

Meanwhile, game two of the Eastern Conference Final goes tonight at Madison Square Garden as the New York Rangers look to avoid dropping the first two games at home to the Florida Panthers.

Warriors open Memorial Cup tonight

The WHL champion Moose Jaw Warriors face the host Saginaw Spirit in a battle between two teams making their Memorial Cup debuts as the tournament opens tonight in Saginaw, Michigan.

The Warriors captured the Ed Chynoweth Cup for the first time in their 40-year history last week. They'll also face the OHL champion London Knights on Monday before wrapping up the round-robin against the QMJHL champion Drummondville Voltigeurs on Tuesday.

At the World Men's Hockey Championship in Prague, Nick Paul had two goals and an assist to lead Canada to a 6-3 win over Slovakia in the quarterfinals on Thursday morning. Jared McCann, Pierre-Luc Dubois, Dylan Guenther and Brandon Tanev also scored for Canada, who face Switzerland in the semifinal on Saturday. Host Czechia will face Sweden in the other semifinal with the gold medal game on Sunday.

Jays rout Tigers to start four-game set

Kevin Gausman struck out a season-high 10 batters and Daulton Varsho hit a tie-breaking homer as the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Detroit Tigers 9-1 to win for the fourth time in their last five games. The four-game series continues tonight with Alek Manoah starting for the Jays.

In local minor baseball this weekend, the 18U AAA 57's host a doubleheader against the Southeast twins on Saturday, the 15U AAA 57's host the Southeast A's in a doubleheader on Saturday, and the 13U AAA 57's have a doubleheader against the Yorkton Cardinals.

Wolverines host Barracudas on Saturday

The Swift Current Wolverines host the Regina Barracudas in Prairie Gold Lacrosse League action on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. from S3 Arenas. The Wolverines beat the Barracudas 10-3 in their season opener back in April.

In minor lacrosse, the U9 Rampage are hosting the Medicine Hat Sun Devils on Saturday in Gull Lake while the U11 Rampage host Moose Jaw, the U13 and U15 Rampage visit Weyburn, and the U17 Rampage host Moose Jaw.

Riders wrap up pre-season in Edmonton

The Saskatchewan Roughriders will finish off the CFL pre-season on Saturday at Commonwealth Stadium against the Edmonton Elks. The Riders opened the exhibition schedule with a 25-12 win over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers at Mosaic Stadium on Monday. The Riders return to Edmonton for the regular season opener on June 8.
