The Swift Current Museum is reaching out to the public in regard to their Honour Our Veterans Banner Program.

The initiative of the Museum to pay tribute to our local veterans and active service members is looking for family members, friends, acquaintances of those who served in any Canadian conflict.

They are hoping that those that come forward will have information about veterans such as their name, photo and military information which will all be placed on a banner and hung.

Lloyd Bagley, Director, and Curator of the Museum details the purpose of the program.

"It recognizes those served from Canada's activities in the Boer War all the way up to the present conflicts that our armed forces are serving in, so it recognizes those people from our community. Banners are hung from streetlights presently all in the downtown core."

Bagley adds there are roughly 17 banners that will hang around Memorial Park and up and down 1st Avenue.

Bagley stresses the importance of this project.

"We can never forget. We can never forget those who unselfishly enlisted and went to serve our nation and the commonwealth in the service of their country to preserve our way of life and to protect us going forward."

Bagley adds that they are also looking for sponsors for the banners which will hang for remembrance week for three consecutive years.

Sponsorship of a banner is at a cost of $150 but you can then take the banner home after the three-year hanging period.

Bagley adds if you have information to pass along regarding a veteran but do not wish to sponsor a banner this is also possible as the museum has some funds set aside.

Those wishing to find out more information about the program or wishing to submit information about a veteran can contact the museum at 306-778-2775 or Lloyd Bagley directly at 306-778-4811.
