Southwest motorists are being reminded of the importance of stopping for red lights, stop signs, uncontrolled intersections, and yielding at yield signs to help keep the roads safe and avoid inevitable consequences.

SGI's Traffic Safety Spotlight highlighted that 451 tickets were issued to drivers who failed to stop or yield during the month of May.

Motorists who fail to stop or yield are handed a $230 ticket and four demerit points.

According to SGI, nearly half of all collisions occur at intersections, obeying traffic laws can prevent mishaps.

Additionally, the month of May brought up 4, 155 tickets for aggressive driving or speeding, 604 tickets for distracted driving, and 459 impaired driving offences with 298 of those resulting in suspensions and Criminal Code charges.
