At approximately 1:30 p.m. yesterday, Wednesday July 5th, Shaunavon Fire Crews, EMS and Police responded to a structure fire in the 500 block of Center Street in Shaunavon.

Shaunavon Fire Chief, Dean McNabb, says a shed behind a house, as well as a fabric gazebo and a vehicle were destroyed in the blaze.

There was no one in the home at the time of the fire, and the only injury as a neighbor who was taken to the Shaunavon Union Hospital suffering from smoke inhalation. They have since been released.

McNabb says neighboring houses and properties did receive some heat damage, and a home four houses down from the blaze did have their lawn catch on fire at one point.

Crews were on the scene until late yesterday afternoon. The home itself had some outside heat damage but the residents were able to return to their home for the night.

McNabb is urging residents of Shaunavon to be careful with dry conditions right now. He says, "For people in town to realize with the dry conditions how serious it is right now. To please use caution if you're gonna have bonfires in the yard, make sure they're maintained. Try to keep  the grass again watered and at least mowed so that if something should happen we don't have to worry things are gonna spread and get out of hand."

The Fire Chief also reminds residents to follow the town bylaws regarding fire pits and remember, no fireworks within town limits.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
