Street sweeping in Swift Current has been underway for a while now and is closing in on completion.

As the weeks have continued, there has been a few dusty spots left on the roadways. Councillor Leanne Tuntland-Wiebe was curious if there was a plan to address these spots.

Answering the questions on the matter was the General Manager of Infrastructure and Operations for the City of Swift Current, Mitch Minken.

"We put a lot of material down this winter," said Minken. "After the rains, it's been difficult to pick up."

The City has been notifying the general populace of when and which streets are due to be swept on social media, encouraging folks to move their vehicles off the street before sweeping begins.

The issue is if a vehicle is left unmoved, street sweepers are forced to go around the automobile, leaving the dust and debris under it behind.

"We will likely be doing clean up afterwards," said Minken. "We still have quite a ways to go. We're going to finish the residential program mid-week next week or towards the end of next week."

After the sweeping is completed, folks can expect pothole work to pick up in pace around town.

Minken made sure to encourage people to call in and leave their suggestions for roads that need attention. If anyone would like to highlight a street that is in special need of sweeping or pothole repairs, they can contact his office at 306-778-1625.
