For the first time since 2010, there will be a new executive director at the Swift Current Community Youth Initiative (The Center).

Former executive director Jim Magee is passing the metaphorical torch to Nathan Wiebe, who has served as the programming director since May, 2014.

Magee says the finality of the decision, which was made effective July 1st but made official in a press conference yesterday, has left him feeling some mixed emotions.

"I love what I do, and I loved the opportunity to be here - it's a great team and board in place," he said. "At the same time, I'm excited for the opportunity to do something different, retire, and be closer to my kids and grand kids. But it has just been a joy to come into work every day."

Magee will be fully stepping down in February, 2018, and will slowly be phasing out in a similar manner in which he transferred tasks over to Wiebe the past year.

As Wiebe transitioned to his new role, each month brought on an added aspect of the job - a process which Wiebe says really helped him appreciate his and Magee's working relationship.

"I'm definitely going to miss having Jim around when he does end up fully stepping back - he's been an incredible mentor for myself," he said. "You come into work every day, talk about life, and have someone there you love and trust. It's super rare to have that and I realize that, and we're just very grateful that he's been here for the length of time that he has."
