The Shaunavon Shadows have a chance to punch their ticket tomorrow to the SHSAA 4A 9-man Football Provincial Championships.

Coming off a 26-6 win over Indian Head last week in the quarterfinals on the road, they'll be back at home for the afternoon semi-final match with the Melfort Comets.

"We've always gotten great support from the community for local sports and football in particular," Shadows Head Coach Aaron Audette said. "It's just another chance for the community to help put on a great event and for the kids to play in front of their family and friends. Having the support of the community has always been a really big thing here."

Shaunavon hasn't appeared in the provincial finals since 2017 when they knocked off Indian Head 24-7 at Shadows Field for their second provincial crown in three years.

"It's new territory for these guys and they're really excited and willing to work towards their goal and next step every day and every week," he said.

Melfort has gone undefeated this season going 6-0 in the regular season and a 43-12 win over Delisle on October 28 in the provincial quarterfinals. Meanwhile, Shaunavon went 5-1 on the season and won last weekend too.

The two teams haven't played each other yet, but from watching the film on the Comet, Audette figures both team's strength is the offensive and defensive lines.

"We're thinking it's going to be a strong battle on both sides, strength versus strength," he said. "Melfort will come in with a gameplan too so it's exciting to see how all the pieces will fall into place this weekend."

Kickoff goes at 1 p.m. tomorrow in Shaunavon.
