The Shaunavon Chamber of Commerce has announced the 2020 Citizen of the Year for Shaunavon.

A lady whose volunteerism in the community makes her, they say, an ideal choice, Brenda Waldron has been chosen for the honor.

Brenda has been involved in many aspects of the community including The Royal Canadian Legion and the Legion Cadet Program, she is one of the founding members of the Southwest Chronic Disease Support Group, helps with the Climax Chapter of Victoria's Quilts and has been a large part of the Relay for Life, Breast Cancer Support and is the Treasurer for The Cypress Loans Cooperative. She also is a founding member of the Search and Rescue Team in Shaunavon, and helped to resurrect a Girl Guides troop in the community. She has also raised funds for The Shaunavon Library and done other miscellaneous volunteering.

Waldron says that she is still in shock, and very honored by the recognition and says that volunteering is something that everyone can do. "It comes from knowing that it takes a whole village, and I don't mean just to raise a child, but a community needs to stick together and you need to go out and do your part."

Due to the COVID 19 pandemic, the Gala Banquet honoring Brenda Waldron will take place at a later date.
