The Swift Current Broncos have now earned a point in six straight games after a 4-1 victory over the Edmonton Oil Kings on Friday night at the InnovationPlex.

According to Broncos Assistant Coach Regan Darby, it wasn’t their best performance thorugh the first two periods as they lead 2-1, but were outshot 19-14 through 40 minutes.

“I thought we could have managed Pucks better in the first couple of periods,” Darby said. “A few too many turnovers, you turn pucks over at the blue line. They’re sometimes hard to get back.”

Conor Geekie opened the scoring for the Broncos just about six minutes into the first period to give the Broncos that 1-0 lead through 20 minutes. The Oil Kings would continue to push in the second, and it was Gracym Sawchyn who got them on the board, but that’s all the Broncos would allow.

Connor Gabriel regained the Broncos lead in the second period, and then in the third, it was Geekie, and Rylan Gould pushing the Broncos out of reach as they dominated the third period, outshooting the Oil Kings 13-7.

“I thought our third period, we locked it down,” Darby added “The penalty kill was decent. They could have built some momentum off of that, but we stayed strong on that and for the most part, didn’t give them a whole lot of chances in the third.”

Reid Dyck was solid again, stopping 25 of 26 shots he saw, while Josh Filmon had two assists as well.

The powerplay was 0-for-2, and the penalty kill was 2-for-2.

The Broncos are back in action hosting Saskatoon on Saturday night.
