Swift Current’s annual celebration of western heritage is going to be a wild ride this year, with an iconic set of grandstand entertainment.

The highly anticipated arrival of country music legends Diamond Rio is just around the corner as Frontier Days kicks off on June 26.

Bassist-vocalist Dana Williams is excited to see a new part of Saskatchewan and relish in the stacked lineup of events next week.

“We haven’t been up there in a long time, and we saw this opportunity and thought thought hey why don’t we take a weekend and run up to Canada?”

Boots will be stampeding the fair grounds on the Friday night for the big show when they’ll perform their classic hits from the 90s.

Diamond Rio became the first country band in history to reach Number One with a debut single — Meet in the Middle. Williams recalled what it was like all those decades ago as they jumped headfirst into stardom.

“What each guy bought to the band as far as their instrument, or far as their vocal, kind of paved the way,” he said. “It immediately as a a different sound that had never been out there. We spent our time just being us, which sounded different, and it just kind of grew from there.”

Forty-two years later and they’re still releasing hits, even welcoming some new band members who bring their own unique sound and flair to the legacy.
