Amateur boxer from Swift Current, Jaden Toye, was seen over the weekend securing a major win against a ranked US national amateur boxer.

The fight took place this past Saturday in Brandon, Manitoba where Toye faced off against Samuel Hale in a three-round match.

"This was a really important fight for me," he said. "Samuel was ranked number four the last time I checked, that was about a year ago so I don't know where he sits now but he's up on the board."

Toye noted he would encourage anyone interested in pursuing boxing or any passion, to keep putting in the effort even when times get tough.

"Just being a guy from a small place in Saskatchewan taking on a big name from the USA, that's a pretty big deal for me," he added. "It feels good to make it up there with the big dogs."

Toye's next fight is set to take place on September 14 in Saskatoon.
