Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Swift Current.

Current conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that could be capable of producing strong gusts of wind, heavy rain, and large hail.

As an upper-level disturbance tracks through parts of southwest Saskatchewan today, thunderstorms are developing. Some of these storms are likely to become severe storms.

Severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes and heavy downpours can lead to flash flooding and water pooling on roadways.

When thunder roars, go indoors! More Canadians are killed and injured by lightning every year than by tornadoes.

Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, or torrential rainfall.
