The City of Swift Current Fire Department announced they were awarded funding of $500 late last week through the Home Fire Sprinkler Coalition Canada.

The program aims to highlight the benefits of home fire sprinklers by spreading awareness throughout the community.

Deputy Chief Dean Diguer for the City of Swift Current notes that home fire sprinklers can effectively contain a fire until firefighters can be on the scene.

"We applied to the program directly to HFSC," said Diguer. "When you apply there's a couple of options so you can choose what you would use the money for."

The fire department plans to use the funds for a new monitor, which will be used to educate community members on home sprinklers and other necessary precautions.

"Prior to me being in this position, I know we've successfully received the funding previously," he added.
