RCMP are encouraging folks to slow down on the highway in southwest Saskatchewan.

With there having already been at least one major incident on the Trans-Canada Highway today, the icy road conditions have proved perilous.

The freezing rain from last night combined with the snowfall and persistent cold has created slippery road conditions.

Keely Grasser, spokesperson for Saskatchewan RCMP, extends a caution to anyone looking to travel today.

"Officers are reporting that roads in the area are icey," said Grasser. "We're asking motorists to slow down."

Grasser strongly recommends motorists drive to road conditions, and to check the Highway Hotline before venturing out.
