High school sports are back in full swing after the Christmas break with both the SCCHS Colts and Ardens winning gold at tournaments over the weekend.

The Colts hosted the five-team Doug Armstrong Memorial Tournament where they came away with a first-place finish after an 80-61 win over Estevan, an 84-82 loss to Weyburn and an 80-56 victory over Saskatoon Bishop James Mahoney.

Meanwhile, the Ardens went unbeaten to claim gold at the 16-team Moose Jaw Invitational, picking up 1 75-31 win over Saskatoon Evan Hardy, a 48-46 victory over Meadow Lake, a 59-31 win over Prince Albert St. Mary, and a 65-35 victory over Moose Jaw Vanier in the final.

The Full Line Ag U18 Wildcats beat the Warman Wildcats 4-1 at home on Friday, but their game against the Northwest Sharks in Maidstone was postponed. 

The Pure Chem U15 Broncos beat the Northwest Stars 6-2 at home yesterday, while the Graphic Edge U15 Wildcats fell 5-2 to the Saskatoon Comet Impact on Sunday.

Also, the SWT U13 Broncos tied Moose Jaw 2-2 and lost 8-6 to the Prairie Storm, and the WW Smith U13 Wildcats lost 4-1 to Warman, 6-2 to Regina Rebels Black and 5-3 to the Lumsden-Bethune Lynx.

Late goal sinks Leafs against Wings

Andrew Copp scored the winner with 1:40 left in regulation as the Detroit Red Wings edged the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-2 last night. The Leafs have lost three games in a row.

Today, the Vancouver Canucks finish a seven-game homestand against the Blue Jackets in a Martin Luther King Jr. Day matinee in Columbus. The Canucks have won six in a row and sit first in the NHL's overall standings with 61 points.

Later tonight, the Montreal Canadiens will look to snap a three-game losing streak when they host the Colorado Avalanche, who have won three in a row.

Lions break long playoff drought with Wild Card win

The Detroit Lions won a playoff game for the first time in 32 years, beating the LA Rams 24-23 in an NFC Wild Card game on Sunday night. The Lions snapped a nine-game postseason losing streak, the longest in NFL history, with their first playoff win since the 1991 NFC Divisional round.

The other game on Sunday saw Jordan Love throwing for three touchdowns to lead the Green Bay Packers to a resounding 48-32 victory over the favoured Dallas Cowboys. The Packers will face the top-seeded San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Divisional round next weekend.

The Wild Card round wraps up today with the Buffalo Bills hosting the Pittsburgh Steelers this afternoon in a game that was postponed from Sunday due to a winter storm in Upstate New York. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers host the Philadelphia Eagles in the nightcap.

The Houston Texans and Kansas City Chiefs won their AFC Wild Card games on Saturday and will join the Baltimore Ravens in the Divisional round.
