A non-profit operating in Herbert for the past six decades is hosting a fundraising auction to help maintain its facility.

The Prairie Wind Estate ‘Compassion in Action’ online auction has $10,000 worth of donated items on tap, and bidding wraps up at 8 p.m. on Monday.

Executive director Tara Fehr,

"Prairie Wind Estate is 100 per cent private, we are not government funded," she explained. "We do fundraisers to help to subsidize our resident fees and keep them as low as possible."

Profits from this particular auction will be used for boiler repairs, a new generator and kitchen upgrades at the facility. However, resident outings are also a priority for the organization so they can enjoy events without emptying their pockets.

Marion has lived at Prairie Wind for almost 17 years, and one of her favourite things about the estate is how it feels like home.

"It's just like being at home to live," she said. "I wouldn't want to live any other place."
