The Saskatchewan RCMP are warning the public about a text scam circulating the province recently.

Fraudsters identify themselves as members of the Saskatchewan Traffic Safety Bureau, claiming that the person receiving the text has been caught speeding through a designated school zone.

They also present a link in the text message, prompting the recipient to click it to avoid going to court.

The Saskatchewan RCMP does not send information about traffic related offences via text messages, and residents are reminded to be vigilant when receiving unknown texts or calls.

Individuals who suspect they are the target of a scam should not respond but block the number immediately, and keep record of the texts. Do not send money or gift cards.

Report frauds to your local RCMP detachment by dialling 310-RCMP. You can also report scams to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501 or https://www.antifraudcentre-centreantifraude.ca/report-signalez-eng.htm.
